Lions donate to cataract surgery equipment
Lake of the Woods District Hospital is getting some financial help from the Lions Clubs of Northwestern Ontario.
They are donating $142,400 for a machine to help out with cataract surgeries.
The money will fund a second Alcon Centurion machine and other ophthalmology instruments at the hospital.
Half of the funding comes from the local Lions clubs including the Kenora, Ear Falls, Dryden, Vermilion Bay, Red Lake, Ignace and Sioux Lookout clubs, while the other half comes from Lions International.
The addition of a second cataract surgical machine will expand capacity substantially.
Currently about 12 are done per day, with one machine.
The second Alcon Centurion machine will allow the ophthalmologist to complete 20 to 24 cataract surgeries per day.
