Machin receives funding for water treatment plant
The Township of Machin is getting a helping hand from the province to repair its water treatment plant.
$162,881 is coming from the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program under the Health and Safety Water Stream.
Mayor Gordon Griffiths says the money go towards replacing one of their failing water pumps.
“Our big pumps, we’ve got two of them, and one was starting to give out on us,” explains Griffiths.
“They pump a lot of water. So, it was starting to get pretty weak, and we were getting ready to start some work on it, and the second pump started acting up.”
Griffiths says for a little community like his, the funding is certainly appreciated.
“For a small municipality, you get big jobs like that, you either carry on with your day-to-day activities or shut down and just pay for the big expenditures. You can’t do both…it’s just impossible.”
The province has committed $700 million dollars under the program and Machin is one of 10 communities in the Kenora-Rainy River Riding to get funding.
