Moncton man arrested in 2021 homicide case
A 41‑year‑old Moncton man has been arrested after new evidence led the RCMP to reopen the 2021 death of Hyde Jochelman in Saint‑Paul.
Officers from the Richibucto detachment were called to a home on Oct. 27, 2021, for what was reported as a sudden death.
When police arrived, they found the 33‑year‑old woman, later identified as Jochelman, dead inside the home.
New information and evidence surfaced between 2022 and 2024 through investigative work, forensic findings and collaboration with the New Brunswick Coroner’s Office.
Police said those developments led investigators to determine her death was suspicious and believed to be a homicide.
The force said it then created a team of senior investigators to review and advance the file.

Mounties said the 41‑year‑old man was arrested at a home in Moncton on Tuesday.
He appeared in Moncton provincial court on Wednesday and was charged with first‑degree murder, unlawful confinement and failure to provide the necessaries of life.
Police said he was remanded and is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 26 at 9:30 a.m.
“While nothing can undo the loss that Hyde Jochelman’s family has experienced, we hope that the charges laid today provide some sense of closure and reassurance that Hyde was never forgotten,” Staff Sgt. Dan Sharpe said in the release.
Several specialized units assisted with the case, including Forensic Identification Services, the Southeast and West District Community Crime Reduction Units, and Southeast District general duty officers
