Mount A staying closed after ‘concerning message’

Mount Allison University will remain closed Thursday and Friday after this week’s investigation of a concerning message.

University administration posted an update late Wednesday afternoon advising of the decision.

“While there is no indication of an ongoing threat, we recognize that this has been a stressful time for many members of our community,” the update said.

“Closing campus for the remainder of the week will allow time for our community to pause and reset before resuming normal operations.”

All academic classes, both in-person and online, are cancelled Thursday and Friday.

Operations will occur remotely except for essential services continuing on campus.

Campus will resume normal operations on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Information about required assignments, assessments or make-up days for midterms will be shared by faculty with classes once rescheduling has been confirmed.

“Faculty are asked to provide flexibility and make alternative arrangements with their classes for any missed midterms, assessments, or assignment deadlines,” the update said.

“Flexibility will also be provided to faculty needing additional time to submit mid-term grades where needed. The deadline for students to withdraw from courses without penalty will be extended.” 

Student residences will stay open and dining services will continue as normal.

The administration asked anyone with information about the events of the week to reach out to the administration.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide further updates as needed,” they said.
