New seniors minister appointed to strengthen care
New Brunswick is taking a new step to strengthen long‑term care by formally appointing Lyne Chantal Boudreau as minister of seniors.
The provincial government announced the move as part of what it describes as a stronger commitment to seniors and the care they receive.
“My mandate is clear. It is to address the issues faced by seniors, to keep their needs at the forefront, and to continue the critical work of strengthening long‑term care in our province,” Boudreau said in a government release.
Her new role gives her responsibility for all seniors‑related files, including budgets and staffing.
The change reflects its focus on helping people live and age with dignity while receiving care when and where they need it.
The province said it continues to work with departments, regional health authorities and community partners to improve access to appropriate care options, including nursing homes, special care homes and other community‑based services.
“This change gives us hope for meaningful improvements that prioritize dignity, respect and quality of care for New Brunswick seniors,” Richard Losier, CEO of the New Brunswick Association of Nursing Homes, said.
