Off-duty firefighters serve at Boston Pizza for Toys for Tots campaign
Off-duty firefighters from Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue are serving food and drinks at the city’s Boston Pizza locations to fundraise for the Toys for Tots campaign.
“It’s something so simple that we can do that makes such a big difference for the individuals that are helped out from Toys for Tots,” says second-class firefighter Melissa Geils, “and just to give our time and show up is something so important to so many people.”
Geils says she loves participating in the annual campaign.
“Everyone likes to get out and put their time in to help collect donations for the community,” she adds.
At the time of this reporter’s interview, Geils was pleased to say she had not spilled any customers’ food or drinks.

Firefighters were present at Boston Pizza’s Memorial Avenue and Arthur Street locations from 12 to 2 p.m. and will be present again from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
While the firefighters are present, Boston Pizza will donate ten percent of sales.
Guests at the pizza joint have the option to donate to Toys for Tots, and during Wednesday’s promotion, Boston Pizza will match donations up to $2,000.

The Toys for Tots campaign provides toys and clothing to children in need each year.
This year, the campaign hopes to raise $180,000 to provide 4,000 children with 1,200 toys, as well as hundreds of hoodies and thousands of gloves and mittens.
