OPP’s Festive RIDE campaign in full swing
Increased enforcement against impaired driving is underway.
Provincial Police have launched their annual Festive RIDE campaign.
It will include around-the-clock RIDE checks of motorists.
Police have the authority to demand a roadside breath sample from drivers without needing reasonable suspicion.
In addition to criminal charges, fully licensed drivers who refuse testing or register a blood alcohol concentration over 0.08% face a 90-day licence suspension and 7-day vehicle impoundment.
Young, novice, and commercial drivers (A-F, G1, G2, M1, M2) must follow zero tolerance, meaning no alcohol in their system.
The public is also encouraged to call police about suspected impaired drivers.
OPP say they have received more than 21,000 such calls this year.
The Festive RIDE campaign runs until New Year’s Day.
