Portage Bay Bridge still in Kenora’s capital plans
The City of Kenora is still planning to do long term repairs on the Portage Bay Bridge.
Mayor Andrew Poirier says there are reports the city is hiding $10 million towards bridge repairs.
But he says that money is still in the capital budget, and they are looking a short term options first.
“We’ve that money further down the line of our 10-year Capital Plan into 2029,” Poirier explained during the open meeting of Kenora City Council on Tuesday.
“And the reason for that, is because since we adopted last year’s budget, we did find out there was a more cost-effective fix to the Portage Bay Bridge, which is in the $400,000 to $500,000 range, which will increase the useful life by 5 to 6 years.”
Poirier adds that because the short-term fix will last longer than they thought, they can wait to do a more comprehensive repairs on the bridge.
