Public asked for tips in Ginoogaming shooting investigation
Police are asking for the public’s help in connection with last week’s fatal shooting in Ginoogaming First Nation.
On Oct. 8, around 2:15 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Anishinabek Police Service responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Echum Drive, where officers found one person dead and another located with injuries.
The next day, two people were arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
A shelter-in-place advisory and an emergency alert were also issued in the area at the time.
Police continue to investigate the incident but are asking for assistance from the public.
In particulary, investigators are interested in video footage, including surveillance or dashcam, or any other information, adding that even details that seem minor or unrelated could be important.
They are asking anyone who may have been in the area of Echum Drive and Poplar Crescent between midnight and 4 a.m. on Oct. 8 to contact police or reach out anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
