Public school board review hospitality policy
A policy governing hospitality is under review by the Rainy River District School Board.
The policy provides guidelines on expenses that will be reimbursed.
Senior Administration made several recommendations to the Board’s Policy Committee.
They included limiting those eligible to provide hospitality to seven senior executives who make up the board’s administration team.
The current policy permits other employees who are considered part of the management team.
Other recommendations strengthen language prohibiting alcohol as an expense, and the guidelines on conflict of interest to include both real and perceived.
It also proposes an annual review of expenses by the Finance Committee as an added layer of transparency.
The policy, last reviewed in 2021, is now out for community consultation before trustees make a final decision.
The review comes as the Minister of Education takes a closer watch on how school boards spend their money.
