Sioux Lookout selects Community Choice project
Expect to see more activity at Farlinger Park (Town Beach) in Sioux Lookout this summer.
The Waterfront Programming and Supervision project was chosen at this year’s Community Choice project.
It will receive $20,000 to offer things like swimming lessons, Swim to Survive courses and aquafit classes.
The town says this is one-time summer initiative and will address the current gap in local swimming instruction, water safety education, and provide supervised swimming at the beach.
Currently, families must travel to Dryden for swimming lessons and other supervised aquatic programming.
The funding will run this June and July and come from the town’s Municipal Accommodation Tax.
78 percent of residents voted in favour of the program.
Following completion of the program in July, a report will be presented to Council outlining participation levels, final budget and expenditures, and overall program outcomes. The findings will help inform future decisions regarding aquatic programming and community recreation priorities.
The Community Art Project, which proposed the installation of a mural by Lac Seul artist Storm Angeconeb at the Memorial Arena to celebrate Indigenous art and culture, received 22% of the vote.
