SIU clears Kenora OPP officer
The Ontario Special Investigations Unit has cleared an OPP officer in regards to an injured woman in downtown Kenora.
Police were called to First Street South and Matheson Street South back on May 31st after they were contacted about a woman in need of assistance.
The woman initially declined medical attention, and a special constable arrived on the scene to help the woman into the back seat of the officer’s cruiser.
They then took her to the Kenora detachment to sober up, but when they took her out of the cruiser, she stood up and a popping sound came from her right leg.
She was taken to hospital and was diagnosed with a broken ankle.
The SIU determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe the officer committed a criminal offense in the woman’s arrest and injury.
