Snowfall warning issued for areas surrounding Thunder Bay
Environment Canada is warning residents along the north shore of Lake Superior to prepare for reduced visibility and challenging travel conditions as lake‑enhanced snowfall continues through Friday.
The alert does not include the City of Thunder Bay, but it does apply to the surrounding areas between Thunder Bay and Marathon.
The agency issued the weather alert early Friday morning.
An additional 5 to 10 centimetres of snow is expected, with the heaviest bursts creating sudden whiteout conditions.
Forecasters say visibility will be reduced at times and travel may quickly become hazardous. Road closures are also possible as snowfall bands intensify along the shoreline.
The snowfall is expected to ease later this afternoon, but Environment Canada says residents in affected communities should be prepared for rapidly changing and deteriorating travel conditions until then.
