St. Ignatius High School announces 2026 musical
St. Ignatius High School will be performing Frozen for this year’s musical.
Students were shown a list of twenty musicals at the beginning of the week, with four eliminated each day to keep them guessing and build hype.
On Friday morning, just four musicals were left: Legally Blonde, Beauty and the Beast, The Sound of Music, and Frozen.
Liz Buset is a teacher at St. Ignatius and one of the co-directors of the 2026 musical. She says Frozen was a classic pick for her students.
“We really wanted to bring that joy of childhood and all that excitement. We know how meaningful this play is to our teens, and they have such fond memories from their childhood. It’s dressing up and hearing these songs in the background and having an Olaf toy when they were kids.”
The St. Ignatius musical secured the rights to the official Broadway musical. Buset says it is exciting because nowhere else in the region has the Broadway rights. “Sometimes you know, performances of Frozen Jr. have happened, but this is the official Broadway musical. So with all the songs and with all the action and all the characters you love.”
Buset and co-director Kayla Agbo expect hundreds of students to audition for the show. The process of working towards the show, which will run from May 5 to 9, will involve “many, many days, thousands of hours, a very huge, collaborative effort to make the magic happen,” says Buset.
Agbo encourages interested members of the public to keep up with the event on social media. “This is really a team effort, a school-wide effort and a community effort. So we just encourage everyone to stay updated and come see Frozen in May.”
Proceeds from the musical will be donated to the Regional Food Distribution Association.
