St. Stephen seeking feedback to relocate skatepark
Where should the skatepark be located in the Municipal District of St. Stephen?
It needs to be moved, and the community wants your input.
The five possible locations are:
- Burton Ave., located behind Scotiabank. This location was suggested by a majority of skate park users from the community. The location is currently used as overflow parking for King St. businesses and driver’s education classes.
- Abbott St. The municipality currently has a playground and a tot lot located here. The local has many neighbouring properties and is further from the centre of the community. The location is also slightly smaller than the location of the previous skate park.
- Elm Park Subdivision. This is located in the Milltown area of the community. There is another playground and a tot lot located at this park. The footprint is bigger than that of Abbott St. and is the furthest location from the downtown area. The property is also surrounded by neighbouring properties.
- Chocolate Park. There is significant infrastructure underground that will affect the final location. This site would not affect residents in the existing park and would be visible from Milltown Blvd. A gas station was previously at this location, so a current engineering project is underway to determine if there is site contamination.
- Waterfront Trail. There is a parcel of land near the municipal pumphouse and Beacon apartments at the end of Budd Ave. that could be a potential location for the skate park. There are several properties surrounding the area, but the location is close enough to the downtown area to be centrally accessible. The trail does provide access to the location. There is existing pumphouse infrastructure underground that will determine the final location.
St. Stephen is also open to other recommendations that can be recommended via a SurveyMonkey voting link, where the public may also vote on the five other options.
Feedback collected will be reviewed by the Administration and summarized in a report to Council.
