The RCMP in Yarmouth have arrested a man after sending out an emergency alert Friday night.

They said the 30-year-old man was armed and dangerous and was last seen on foot in the area of Cumberland Street and Williams Street, according to the alert. It was sent around 7 p.m. to people in the Yarmouth, Shelburne, and Digby counties.

Details are few, and police did not say which type of weapon he had.

RCMP asked everyone in the area to get inside and lock their doors and windows and to not give anyone a ride.

The man was taken into custody and the alert ended around 7:30 p.m.

Officers will remain in the area as they investigate, but residents can resume their normal activities.
