Police presence lifted after early‑morning call in Kenora

A police warning in a Kenora neighbourhood early Monday led residents to stay inside, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

Officers were called to the area of Government Road and McLean Avenue around 6:24 a.m. for what they described as an ongoing investigation.

Police advised people living nearby to remain indoors, lock their doors and avoid the area until further notice.

In an update posted at 7:23 a.m., the OPP said the increased police presence had ended, and regular patrols had resumed.

The service said one person was taken into custody and that officers were not looking for any other suspects.

Police said no further information will be released at this time because the investigation is still underway.

The Dryden OPP have released few details about an incident in the area of Arthur and Casimir Street.

Police will only say the area has now been cleared in response to a person in distress.

Because the OPP action took place near the high school, a hold a secure was issued this morning and lasted throughout the day.

The area was finally cleared just after 2:00 this afternoon.

Provincial police conducting investigation on Highway 17 between Upsala and Ignace

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are advising drivers that they are conducting an investigation on Highway 17 between Upsala and Ignace.

An advisory was posted on the OPP Northwest Region Facebook page about the situation on Friday, around 2:00 p.m.

Motorists are being asked not to pick up any hitchhikers along that stretch of highway.

No other information is available at this time.
