Thunder Bay accepting pumpkins for compost
Thunder Bay is lending a hand to residents cleaning up after Halloween.
Pumpkin compost bins have been put up in a few locations around the city, including:
- Westfort Playfield (on Neebing Avenue)
- Intercity Shopping Centre overflow parking
- County Fair Plaza
The bins will be available until November 10.
Candles, plastic bags, or trash should not be placed in the bins.
The city has been operating pumpkin collections since 1995.
Since then, nearly 400 tonnes of pumpkins have been diverted from the city’s landfill.
The pumpkins are blended with leaf and yard waste and wood waste to be made into compost.
The compost is available to residents at no charge for pickup in the spring.
