Acting aspirations? Professionals say, “Just do it!”

The recent production of Shrek the Musical at the Capitol Theatre in Moncton brought laughter and love to thousands.

Both professional actors and newcomers graced the stage in various roles. They’re an inspiration to many who would like to follow in their footsteps and get involved in theatre.

Rebekah Brown, who played Fiona, said it takes hard work, “You need to believe in yourself, and also you can learn so much by watching. You don’t need to have all of the fancy classes, you don’t need to have all of the experiences that maybe others have, and you can learn so much just by sitting back, by watching, by educating yourself, watching shows, watching and listening and spending the time honing your craft as much as you can.”

Tyler Check, who played Lord Farquaad, had this advice, “If you see yourself wanting to do it, just get involved in whatever it is. Go do karaoke, start making art, reach out to the Capitol, I’m sure they’re looking for people. Just do it, just start, and it’ll happen.”

Shrek The Musical was the ninth professional musical theatre production for partners Tutta Musica Orchestra and the Capitol Theatre. Previous performances include The Sound of Music, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid and The Addams Family. Performances wrapped up on March 1.

If you are motivated and want to get involved, theatre groups across the province can help get you started, including the Capitol Theatre in downtown Moncton.

Plans for the next musical production for 2027 are expected to be announced in the fall.
