A 19-year-old Thunder Bay man is facing multiple charges following an online extortion investigation.
The Thunder Bay Polic Service’s cybercrime unit began an investigation earlier this year after receiving information that a local internet user was suspected of extorting a non-local victim for nude photos.
Police conducted a search in June relating to the investigation.
As a result of the search, police found the accused had extorted female victims between the ages of 10 and 16.
Police said the accused was doing so for the purpose of communicating and exchanging sexually explicit material.
The accused turned himself in to police the morning of Nov. 13, and appeared in court the same day.
He was released with conditions and given a future appearance date.
The man is facing nine charges:
- Accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material
- Distribution of child sexual abuse and exploitation material
- Possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material
- Extortion x2
- Luring x3
- Making sexually explicit material available to a child
