An individual is facing charges after assaulting two police officers in Thunder Bay.

Officers were sent to Amelia Street West around midnight on Tuesday in response to a report about a weapon.

Someone was holding a hammer and using it to hit walls, and the individual had tried to smash a door.

The suspect was located, and officers asked them to drop the hammer.

The suspect opted to approach the officers and throw a screwdriver towards them.

Officers were able to arrest the suspect a short while later.

As a result, a 41-year-old is facing the following charges:

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• Assault with a weapon (two counts)
• Assault peace officer (two counts)
• Resisting arrest
• Breach of probation (two counts)

The accused appeared in court on Tuesday, and they remain in custody with a future court date.

A British Columbia resident is facing multiple charges following a drug trafficking investigation in Thunder Bay.

The investigation got underway in May and focused on drug trafficking to Thunder Bay and the surrounding communities.

On August 26, officers conducted a search at a hotel, as well as two businesses and one vehicle.

During the searches, the following items were seized:

• One kg of suspected methamphetamine
• 260 grams suspected fentanyl
• 40 grams of suspected cocaine
• Seven grams of suspected crack cocaine
• $6,500 in Canadian currency
• Prohibited weapon (mace)
• Cell phones
• Digital scales

The estimated street value of the drugs seized is more than $120,000.

As a result, a 29-year-old is facing the following charges:

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• Possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5,000
• Possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
• Possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
• Possession for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl
• Trafficking – methamphetamine

The accused has been released from custody with a future court date.

An individual is facing charges after pointing an imitation gun at a security guard.

Officers were sent to Dawson Road around 3:00 a.m. on Saturday in response to a report involving a weapon.

They were able to locate and arrest the suspect.

The arrest led to the seizure of the fake gun.

As a result, a 27-year-old has been charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The accused has been scheduled for a future court date.

The Central Region Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Thunder Bay’s police and the Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) teamed up to stop an attempt to smuggle suspected methamphetamines into the country through a mail service.

On July 21, a Thunder Bay resident was arrested for taking possession of roughly 140 grams of suspected methamphetamines.

The estimated street value of the suspected drugs is roughly $7,000.

A package shipped from the United States to the individual’s home was seized by the CBSA at a processing facility in Winnipeg.

Following the seizure, the package was transferred to the RCMP in Ontario.

The RCMP then worked with Thunder Bay’s police to make an arrest.

As a result, a 50-year-old from Thunder Bay has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and importing a controlled substance.

The accused was released from custody with conditions and a future court date.
