St. Joseph’s Women’s Health Centre in need of new ultrasound equipment

St. Joseph’s ultrasound machine is more than 10 years old. The centre is in need of a replacement, according to Executive Director Mark Stewart.

“To help respond to this urgent need, the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation is pleased to lead the way with an initial commitment of $15,000 toward the purchase of a new breast ultrasound machine. With a total project cost of $120,000, we are reaching out to our community to help complete this important investment in women’s health,” the foundation said in a release.

St. Joseph’s Women’s Health Centre located in Saint John serves patients from across the province with specialized services. The centre performs more than 12,000 breast imaging and diagnostic procedures yearly.

In specific, the program provided 13,335 breast imaging and diagnostic procedures, 2,073 breast ultrasounds, and 390 breast biopsies, including 340 performed using ultrasound guidance.

This goal of a new equipment comes as part of the Because She Matters campaign, a movement originating from belief that every woman deserves high-quality care with up-to-date equipment.
