Over 300 walkers will brave the Coldest Night of the year.
It’s the annual event that raises funds for Youth Impact Jeunesse in Moncton.
It’s the thirteenth year, and the goal this year is $175, 000.
“Donations go to two of our community outreach programs, YouthQuest Central and Transitional Housing. YouthQuest Central is a multi-resource centre. It’s located at 199 St. George Street. It serves youth between the ages of 16 and 25. They can go to the centre and get their basic needs met,” Associate Director Tracy Cormier explained.
“We have showers, a meal program, a clothing depot, and laundry facilities. They can also access various programs on-site. There’s an employment program, an education component, a drug intervention, and our transitional housing office is there. If housing is needed, they can meet with the staff and start that process.”
Participants can choose either a two-kilometre or a five-kilometre walk. Both routes include a rest stop at YouthQuest Central, so they can see where their donations are going.
The walk happens on February 28. Registration is at 4 pm, and the walk begins at 5 pm. It begins and ends at the Atrium on Church Street.
“People are encouraged to sign up online. You can either start a team and recruit your family and friends, coworkers, neighbours, or you can sign up individually or join any other team that’s already registered,” Cormier said.
“This final stretch is always critical. Community support has been incredible, and every registration and donation made will directly impact young people who rely on our programs,” Cormier stressed.
