Terry Fox Run to go in Fort Frances Sept. 14th
The planning for this year’s Terry Fox Run in Fort Frances is underway.
It will take place on September 14th at the Sorting Gap Marina.
This will be the 45th year.
The event’s site organizer, Laura Bruyere, says participants will walk along the waterfront toward Seven Oaks at Point Park and return to the Marina.
“We’ll have a little opening ceremony, the run or walk itself, followed by a barbecue, some kid events, activities, and some door prizes to give away,” says Bruyere.
The goal of the Terry Fox run is to raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation and cancer research.
Bruyere says there is no set amount, noting every little bit helps.
“You can pre-register online by visiting terryfox.org and searching for the Fort Frances event.
You can register the day of the event in person or make a donation in person as well,” says Bruyere.
Participants are not required to complete the full course and can choose to do parts of the run or walk as it suits them.
Bruyere is hoping to see a larger gathering.
“The more people who come out to participate, the better. Whether you’re participating in the walk, if you want to just come down and make a donation or as a spectator to cheer on our participants, we just want to have some community support.”
The Fort Frances Museum is also recognizing the event’s 45th year with a display now available for viewing.
The town of Fort Frances is scheduled to raise a flag next week and issue a proclamation in recognition of the event.
