2 airlifted from Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area
No serious injuries after two people were rescued from a remote area along the Ontario-Minnesota border.
St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says a 59-year-old man and his 17-year-old son, both from Kentucky, were airlifted from within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
A distress signal coming from the southern edge of Lac La Croix led emergency personnel to the pair.
Because of the area’s remoteness, the U.S. Forest Service was contacted for support in transporting emergency personnel to the scene.
The man was later treated for a back injury but released from hospital in Ely.
His son was not hurt.
