Brewing dreams in Dryden: MarBella Coffeehouse opens its doors
In the heart of Dryden’s historic downtown, a new kind of coffee experience is taking shape. One that blends warmth, creativity, and community. MarBella Coffeehouse, the latest venture from longtime entrepreneurs Michelle and Ed, is more than just a place to grab a cup of coffee. It’s a space designed to bring people together, spark conversation, and celebrate the spirit of the town.

A Dream Years in the Making
The idea for MarBella began years ago, when Michelle and Ed first considered opening a coffee house. Life, and a global pandemic, put those plans on hold. But earlier this year, a casual conversation around a friend’s dining room table reignited the dream. Michelle dusted off her original business plan, and with Ed’s full support, the couple dove in.
“We were supposed to retire,” Michelle laughs, “but we’re not the kind of people to sit around. We wanted to create something meaningful for our community.”

A Coffee House with Heart
Located in the beautifully restored original RBC Bank building, MarBella offers a cozy, elegant atmosphere with velvet tufted chairs, chandeliers, and a welcoming vibe that invites guests to linger. It’s not just a coffee shop… it’s a coffee house, a place to sit, relax, and enjoy.
From espresso to hot chocolate, frappés to drip coffee, the menu is designed to delight every kind of coffee lover. A rotating selection of cheesecakes, cookies, muffins, and squares fills the display case, and plans are already brewing for soups, sandwiches, and salads during lunch hours. Eventually, the couple hopes to introduce mocktails and other creative beverages to round out the experience.
But what truly sets MarBella apart is its commitment to community and creativity. Michelle and Ed envision hosting live music, game nights, poetry readings, and even local artists painting in the corner. “It’s a place where people can come and enjoy each other’s company,” Michelle says. “Without needing it to be a drinking night.”
Whether it’s a casual meet-up with friends, a quiet moment with a book, or a business chat over coffee, MarBella is designed to be a gathering space for all.

A Name with Meaning
The name MarBella carries deep personal significance. It’s a blend of Marjorie and Isabella – the names of Ed’s and Michelle’s mothers. Ed’s mother, who passed away, had always dreamed of owning a coffee shop. MarBella is a tribute to both women and the values they instilled in their children.
“We threw around names for months,” Michelle recalls. “And then one day, it just hit me. MarBella. It felt right. It felt like home.”

Invested in Dryden’s Future
Michelle and Ed are no strangers to business. With decades of entrepreneurial experience, they’ve built successful ventures and believe strongly in the potential of Dryden’s downtown. “We could have chosen other locations,” Michelle says, “but I believe in the growth of our downtown core. I want to see it flourish.”
Their timing couldn’t be better. Many locals feel Dryden is on the cusp of a boom, and MarBella is poised to be a cornerstone of that momentum, a gathering place that supports other businesses and brings life to the heart of the city.
Soft Opening, Big Vision
MarBella Coffeehouse had a soft opening on October 1, with a grand opening planned to coincide with Midnight Madness, Dryden’s biggest retail event of the year. Michelle and Ed are embracing the learning curve, excited to grow into their new roles and serve the community with passion and care.
“We’ve invested in top-of-the-line equipment,” Michelle says. “We want to build something that will last – and something that Dryden can be proud of.”
As Michelle puts it, “We have so many ideas brewing” – and Dryden is ready for every one of them.
