North Star Air to provide daily flights from Kenora in 2026
There will be daily air service from the Kenora Airport to Thunder Bay starting in the new year.
The Airport has come to an agreement with North Star Air to provide one flight a day to the Lakehead and one back to Kenora.
Chair of the Airport Authority Ryan Reynard says they believe there will be enough interest to make the flights feasible.
“We feel from the surveys that we’ve sent out and just talking with stakeholders, there’s going to be good demand for it,” says Reynard.
“The flights are designed to be able to make connections from Thunder Bay to southern Ontario…to western Canada. They are designed purposely for connectivity.”
Reynard says there will be one flight in the morning to the Lakehead and one back to Kenora in the evening.
“Right now, we’re looking at the Pilatus PC-12. So, that’s a nine-seater. If the passenger volumes are there, they do have a larger aircraft that we could potentially look at. We’re getting back into scheduled service, so we need to make sure that we prove the market, and we’ve got to have people flying.”
The North Star air service will start on January 15th.
Reynard adds that they are continuing their involvement in a study with both Dryden and Fort Frances, and he hopes it will provide more information about the airplane travel market in this region.
