Local sports for Sunday, February 1st
The Fort Frances Lakers have taken over top spot in the SIJHL standings.
The Lakers won both their games over the weekend, while the Dryden GM Ice Dogs were idle.
Fort Frances doubled up the Ironwood Lumberjacks 4-2 Saturday and got by the Lumberjacks 2-1 in overtime on Friday night.
The Lakers are now up on the Ice Dogs by 3 points, but Dryden still has 3 games in hand.
Elsewhere, the Kam River Fighting Walleye swept the Sioux Lookout Bombers in both of the games they played this weekend.
The Walleye won 2-1 Saturday night and 4-1 on Friday.
The Thunder Bay North Stars also won both their games on the weekend.
The North Stars downed by Red Lake Miners 6-3 on Sunday afternoon and 9-2 on Saturday night.
The Lakehead Thunderwolves won both their games against the University of Toronto Blues.
On Saturday night, the Thunderwolves blanked the Blues 4-0 and doubled up U of T 6-3 on Friday night at Fort William Stadium.
With the pair of wins, Lakehead vaults into first place in the OUA West Division standings, one point up on Toronto Metropolitan University with 33 points (16-7-1).
The Thunderwolves have just four games left in the regular season and hit the road for the final time this Friday and Saturday against the Windsor Lancers and the Western Mustangs.
