2026 census begins in the north
Census collection is officially starting in Canada this May, but a number of northern areas have already started gathering population information.
That includes most First Nations in northern Ontario.
As well, the unincorporated areas of the Kenora and Thunder Bay Districts are being counted now.
Other areas of the north in the early census are the northern parts of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
Census questions are available in English and French as well as a number of Indigenous languages.
