Dryden ready to celebrate SIJHL All-Star Weekend
The talent of the Superior International Junior Hockey League will be on display this weekend in Dryden.
The SIJHL All-Star weekend will take place Friday and Saturday.
President of the Dryden GM Ice Dogs, Mike Sveinson says this replaces their annual showcase event.
“You know this is not the first time…there has been a history of having an All-Star game in the SI(JHL),” explains Sveinson.
“So, we just went back to this format. Of course, this is a good opportunity to re-visit the All-Star model, and we can move it throughout the league, giving a number of teams an opportunity to host an event like this.”
Sveinson believes this will be a good showcase for the league and its players.
“The feedback I’ve received so far from my colleagues within the SI(JHL) from their players, is that everybody is excited about the event. I know we have a number of the participating players attending, but we have a lot of players attending just to watch the event. There’s big interest from the players and of course a big honour for the ones selected to play.”
It all starts with a skills competition Friday night at the Dryden Memorial Arena and moves to the Eagle Lake First Nation for team practices Saturday morning.
That will be followed by the Fan Fest from 1:30 until 3:00 at the Center and the actual All-Star game at the Dryden Arena at 7:30 Saturday night.
