Ignace receives provincial wastewater funding
A major shot in the arm for the Township of Ignace.
It’s getting over $4.8 million to repair the Ignace Water Pollution Control Plant.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford says it’s part of the provincial government’s effort to support increased housing.
““This expanded funding for critical water infrastructure will contribute to strengthening the safety and reliability of water services here in Ignace,” says Rickford
“The Health and Safety Water Stream is ensuring the safety, functionality and longevity of the water treatment plants that residents in Ignace rely on, today and into the future.”
Rickford says Ignace is one of ten communities and First Nations in the riding to receive funding under the provincial program.
Mayor Kim Baigrie says the funding is much needed to ensure community growth.
“This funding is so critical for the ongoing safe operation, upgrades and repairs that we need to make to the wastewater facility in this community, in order that we can move forward with other key housing and commercial developments associated with the proposed growth around the upcoming NWMO developments.”
Rickford says $875 million has been pledged under the Health and Safety Water Stream.
