Local election nomination period opens
Nominations are open for this spring’s local elections.
New Brunswickers will go to the polls on May 11 to elect new municipal councils, rural district advisory committees and district education councils.
“These important positions allow individuals to give back to the communities in which they live, work and, in many cases, raise their families in a very tangible and meaningful way,” chief electoral officer Kim Poffenroth said in a statement.
Voters will be choosing candidates in 77 local governments, 12 rural district advisory committees and 68 district education council subdistricts.
Local returning offices open to the public Monday, and Poffenroth is encouraging potential candidates to submit their nomination paperwork well before the deadline of 2 p.m. on April 10.
She said voting at returning offices won’t be possible until printed ballots become available on April 20, due to the complexity of the ballots used during municipal elections.
