Person rescued from ice after fall near train trestle in Thunder Bay
An individual has been taken to hospital after an ice rescue in Thunder Bay.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue say crews responded to reports of someone who may have fallen from a train trestle near Syndicate Avenue and William Street.
When firefighters arrived, they located an unconscious person on the ice below.
Four firefighters, using specialized ice rescue equipment, were able to reach the individual, stabilize them, and bring them safely to shore.
The person was then transferred to paramedics and taken to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further treatment.
Fire officials are reminding the public to avoid walking on train trestles, noting they are not meant for pedestrian use.
They also warn that ice conditions on rivers can be unpredictable and dangerous.
