New equipment to produce more N.S. grown apples for ‘School Lunch Program’
More local apples for your kids’ lunch at school.
New apple slicing and packaging equipment is in place at a business in Hants County.
‘The Station Food Hub Company’ in Newport Station can now get out 300 cases of apples per day, they could only do 30.
Provincial funding toward the equipment totalled nearly $100,000.
Each case is about 180 servings, and will allow for more apples to be in the Nova Scotia School Lunch Program.
Agricultural minister Greg Morrow says it will also help open new market opportunities for Nova Scotia growers.
