Former mayor Penny Lucas has officially filed to run for Ignace town council.
“I have more to give (as councillor), and there are some really good people that want to come forward and vie for mayor so I think I want to leave that with them” she said.
Lucas continued that that she wants to keep being involved in the political scene and that she has just retired and has a lot of time to commit to the council.
“I think I still have a lot to give the community and I’d like to work with whoever the mayor is going to be when that happens” she said.
Lucas was elected to Ignace council in 2018, becoming mayor after the resignation of Donald Cunningham in 2020.
In 2022, Lucas ran for mayor and lost to Bill Gascon with 19 per cent of the votes.
