Weather slows gold production at Rainy River Mine
Coeur Mining is reporting a decrease in gold production at its Rainy River mine.
Just under 54,000 ounces of gold were produced in the last three months.
That is a nearly 16% drop from what was produced in the three months prior.
Chief Operating Officer Michael Routledge says weather was a factor.
“Unusually heavy rainfall slowed Phase 4 open pit mining, causing the operation to process more low-grade stockpiles, which affected third-quarter production and correspondingly cost,” Routledge told Investors in a conference call on Thursday.
The mine did see continued improvement in underground operations, where mining rates increased by 50%.
About 3,400 tonnes a day were being recovered, up from 2,300 during the previous reporting period.
Routledge says they have been aiming for 5,000 tonnes per day by the end of the year.
“And the team are already hitting those levels for short periods, with additional development and infrastructure work planned to provide more work fronts to consistently sustain those levels towards the second half of 2027,” adds Routledge.
The company expects open pit operations to return to normal over the next quarter, hoping that the wet weather that slowed operations is behind them.
