A new online job-matching tool for the region
An online portal that’s designed to match prospective workers with employers in the Northwest is now up and running.
Northwestern Ontario Works was developed by the Atikokan Economic Development Corporation in partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University’s Magnet network. Magnet is an innovation centre at TMU that focuses on labour and the future of the workplace.
The platform is much more than just a job bank, as it actively analyzes applicants and available jobs and aims to find the best matches.
There are connections, so, the system itself can find the candidates and match them based on the requirements of the job descriptions.
Employers are encourage to describe their job and follow all suggested points in the job postings.
The system can then analyze the whole pool of potential candidates, find them in the system and offer them the opportunity to apply directly.
The economic development corporation has also partnered with a number of other organizations, like the Newcomer Centre of Peel, ACCES Employment and New Horizons Media and they plan to run various conferences, networking events and hiring sessions aimed at connecting immigrants with settlement and immigration experts and prospective employers.
The organization is also promoting a Magnet student work placement program that provides up to 50% of an eligible placement’s wages, up to $5,000.
The platform is connecting people with post-secondary students, primarily, and new Canadians, people that have their permanent residency or their work permits.
It’s a similar system to the Work in Manitoba platform one province over.
The Northwestern Ontario Works site is also connected with another platform called Outcome Campus Connect, which is a job-searching resource that includes over 200 post-secondary institutions.
