Advisory committee still favours Lillie Avenue location for Fort Frances dog park
An advisory committee is responding to council with information on three sites it has looked at for a dog park in Fort Frances.
Council requested the information after delaying a decision at their last meeting to developing the park on green space at Lillie Avenue, near Legion Park.
The committee favours the site because of its central location and proximity to amenities such as water, parking and washroom facilities.
In a report to council, the committee also reviewed property near the community garden in the town’s north end, and a spot near the Fort Frances Curling Club.
Both are 2-acre spots and have access to water resources, but lack off-street parking and public washrooms.
The committee notes the Lillie Avenue location “offers a unique combination of natural canine-friendly aesthetics and logistical readiness.”
The site is central and far from high-traffic routes, providing a safe and calm environment for pets.
Some members of council commented at their last meeting that the site is too valuable to be developed as a dog park.
Councillor John McTaggart has also proposed it be considered for a campground.
Council was also told that five sites were reviewed by the committee.
The new information makes no mention of the other two.
Council will receive the report at their meeting on Monday night.
