Agropur planning major Bedford expansion
Nova Scotia says a major expansion by Agropur at its Bedford facility will strengthen the dairy sector and support farmers across the Maritimes.
The province announced it is welcoming the investment, which will allow the Bedford site to process more milk products and ingredients used in foods across Canada.
The project will also include a new butter processing line.
Premier Tim Houston says the expansion aligns with the province’s economic growth plans.
“Nova Scotia is a great choice for Agropur’s expansion,” Houston said in a release.
The new facility is expected to open in 2028.
Agropur currently employs more than 400 people at its plants in Bedford and Truro.
Agriculture Minister Greg Morrow says the project is important for local producers.
“This is a great day for dairy farmers in Nova Scotia,” he said, adding the investment will support new value-added products and market diversification.
Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia says new infrastructure in Bedford, along with investments in New Brunswick, will help ensure locally produced milk can be processed within the region while creating room for future growth.
The province notes Agropur also invested $34 million in its Truro ice cream and frozen novelties plant in 2022.
