Conservation Authority warns of possible hazards as heavy rains hit Thunder Bay
The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) is warning the public to take caution around waterways as heavy rainfall and melting ice create possible risks for residents.
Rapidly melting snow and ice produce water runoffs around ditches, rivers, and other waterways.
The LRCA is not expecting nearby rivers and lakes to flood, but flat areas such as roads and parking lots may fare worse.
Other potential hazards during the period of thawing and heavy rain include slippery surfaces, unstable ice, and cold, fast-moving water.
Those with children or pets are encouraged to take caution near the water and be aware of potential risks.
