Digby Fire Department calling on help from fishermen to continue annual chowder supper
The Digby Fire Department is turning to the local fishing community for help keeping one of its longtime fundraising traditions alive.
The department says its annual chowder supper has been a staple in the community for years, bringing residents together while helping raise money to support local fire services.
For many years, lobster used in the chowder was donated by Cummings Fisheries.
However, following the recent retirement of Ralph Cummings, the department says it now needs additional support from local fishermen and the broader community.
In a public message, the department says purchasing lobster themselves would make the fundraiser financially difficult to continue.
Officials are now asking fishermen to consider donating a few lobsters toward this year’s event.
The department says any contribution, large or small, would help ensure the chowder supper can continue in the future.
The fundraiser has long relied on support from local businesses, volunteers and residents, and organizers say they hope the community will once again step up to help preserve the tradition.
