Fort Frances Lakers name captain for next season
Just days removed from the heartbreak of a game 7 overtime loss in the SIJHL final, the Fort Frances Lakers are already preparing for next season.
Gunnar Simon has been named as captain for the 2026-27 season.
The Minnesota-born forward is entering his third year after serving as an assistant captain this past season.
Lakers head coach Luke Judson calls Simon an excellent ambassador for the program.
“He leads by example on and off the ice, and we will count on him to set the standard of what it means to be a Laker.” who leads by example on and off the team,” states Judson in a release.
Simon played in 47 games during the past season, scoring 10 goals and accumulating 28 points.
He joined the club in 2024 with his older brother Gavin after leading the Monticello Moose to a second-place finish in the Minnesota High School Hockey’s Section 5A final.
Gavin Simon now played NCAA Division III hockey for Southern New Hampshire University.
