Ministry suggests changes to Fort Frances land-use planning document
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing is suggesting ten modifications to the town of Fort Frances’ Official Plan.
The Ministry gives approval to the key land-use planning document, subject to the town accepting the changes.
They reflect provincial policy direction related to such things as boundary expansions, land use compatibility, and engagement with Indigenous communities.
The Ministry also suggests removing a disclaimer and designations made to lands along Highway 11 East that are subject to a land claims issue.
It also clarifies the need for the town to consult with First Nations under certain circumstances.
The document outlines a framework of new and revised policies that address things as affordable housing, employment areas, and the protection of water resources and natural heritage.
Town council approved the document in January before sending it to the Ministry.
