More Moncton residents relying on food bank
Demands continue to rise for the Peter McKee Community Food Centre.
The Executive Director for the centre that exists in response to food security issues in Moncton gave an update to Moncton City Council this week.
Christine Taylor says over $7.2 million worth of food was distributed to the community through their food bank and outreach program in 2025, which is a 28 per cent increase over 2024.
“Seniors are the fastest growing demographic with a 12 per cent increase in food bank use compared to the previous year. We’ve had a 10 per cent increase in new client registrations. We provided over 26,000 food bank appointments last fiscal year, which is a five per cent increase compared to the previous year,” Taylor added.
The food bank served over 2500 households and over 6300 Moncton residents in 2025.
