Seventh Fire Eagles hockey program seeking host families for student-athletes
The Seventh Fire Eagles Hockey Program is asking Thunder Bay residents to consider opening their homes to out-of-town student-athletes pursuing both their education and hockey development in the city.
As the program continues to expand, more young players from outside Thunder Bay are being accepted into Seventh Fire Secondary School while training and competing with the Eagles. Program officials say one of the biggest challenges facing those athletes is finding a safe and supportive place to live during the school year.
“We have young athletes who are excited about the opportunity to come to Thunder Bay, attend school and be part of our hockey program, but finding housing continues to be one of our biggest challenges,” said Bradey Fox, Director of Player Development.
The Eagles are seeking both full-season and short-term billet homes. Families who may only be able to host a player for a few weeks or months are also encouraged to reach out.
Billet families are asked to provide a private bedroom, meals and a welcoming home environment while players attend school, train and compete. The program notes that billet arrangements often create lasting relationships between athletes and host families.
Individuals, couples, families and empty nesters with a suitable home environment are all encouraged to inquire.
