Thousands turn out to walk Macdonald Bridge in Halifax
Thousands came out under sunny skies, Sunday afternoon, for Bridgewalk 2026.
It’s when Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) closes the Macdonald Bridge to allow Haligonians to cross the harbour span on foot.
It’s a popular family-friendly annual event that has been around for decades.
The even kicked off right at 2 p.m., with a marching band playing When the Saints Go Marching In to liven spirits.
In addition to marching along the bridge, there was a lot of entertainment on hand.
For a second year in a row, pro wrestling was back.

The wrestlers were part of the event last year as well with 15 athletes who showcased their skills.
Other entertainment included food, drink, fire trucks, several community organizations, old tokens as well as a mysterious bell – over 100 years old- that used to hang from the Macdonald Bridge years ago.
HHB started looking for its origin in March and still haven’t solved the puzzle.
HHB says the bridge was buzzing, the sun was shining and they were having the best time.
