Barricaded person arrested after police presence in Chapel Island

You may have seen a large police presence around New Subdivision Road in Chapel Island.

The RCMP says there was a person who had barricaded themselves inside a home Monday evening

There was not threat to the public and police arrested the person around 11 p.m.

Police say some officers remained in the area to help with the investigation.

Although details are few, Potlotek Education Office says in a statement on social media that Mi’kmawey School and Allan Lafford High School will be open Tuesday.

They say many may be affected by the events happening in the community. They understand if parents would like to keep students home. But if they attend school, teachers will be briefed by the Community Mental Health team to help conversations and emotions that might arise.

They say they are a close-knit community and it is important to look out for each other in hard times.
