Off-duty Bridgewater police officer cleared after fatal crash: SiRT

An off-duty member of the Bridgewater Police Service has been cleared of any wrongdoing after a fatal crash in March.

The Serious Incident Response Team says it was March 28 when two RCMP cruisers responded to a call involving four adults and a car that had run out of gas.

One of the officers found the group on Highway 103 in Tantallon, while the other officer gave one of the men walking to a nearby gas station a lift before dispatched to an urgent call.

As the man was walking back from the gas station, he was hit by the vehicle of an off-duty officer on the exit 5 ramp when he quickly stepped onto the road.

He was pronounced dead on scene.

SiRT used dash cam footage as part of their investigation.
