Several voting options for upcoming municipal election

Voting is officially underway for the upcoming municipal elections on May 11.

Eighteen returning offices are now open across the province, where you can cast ballots in advance for local government, rural district and district education council elections.

“This voting option offers greater flexibility to voters who might not otherwise be able to cast their vote during the scheduled voting times,” said Kim Poffenroth, municipal electoral officer. “Electors who are away from their normal voting place can also go to any returning office to request a ballot for the place where they are eligible to vote.”

She adds that all information on where returning offices are can be found on the Elections NB website.

“Any eligible elector can vote at advance polls on May 2 or 4, and at returning offices across the province,” Poffenroth explained.

There is also a ‘Where can I vote’ section on the website where you can type in your address, and it will tell you exactly where your polling station is and the contest you can vote in.

Mail-in ballots for the May 11 election are also an option.

“Electors can continue to apply for a vote-by-mail package, either by using our online portal available on our website, or by downloading an application and submitting it to their local returning office,” said Poffenroth.

All mail-in ballots must be returned to the returning office from where they were issued before 8 p.m. on election day.
