Lifeguards are about to wrap up supervision on most of the two dozen beaches in Nova Scotia as summer season comes to an end.

The Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service (NSLS) says the last day of supervision is Sunday, August 30 at 6 p.m. for the following sites:

  • Dollar Lake, Bayswater, Clam Harbour, Rainbow Haven, Martinique, and Queensland Beaches, Halifax County
  • Dominion and Mira Gut Beaches, Cape Breton County
  • Heather Beach, Cumberland County
  • Ingonish Beach, Victoria County
  • Mavillette Beach, Digby County
  • Melmerby Beach, Pictou County
  • Pomquet and Bayfield Beaches, Antigonish County
  • Point Michaud Beach, Richmond County
  • Port Maitland, Lake Mile and Lake Ellenwood Beaches, Yarmouth County
  • Port Hood and Inverness Beaches, Inverness County
  • Rissers Beach, Lunenburg County
  • Stoney Island Beach, Guysborough County

“Our lifeguards have worked hard this summer and were well prepared for any situation on our beaches. We have performed many rescues and interventions, but the rate of major incidents remains low,” said Paul D’Eon, Director of the NSLS. “Please exercise safe practices while visiting our beaches.”

Aylesford Lake supervision will continue until Monday, September 7. Lawrencetown Beach will reopen for supervision on September 5-6 and September 12-13.

The service began 53 years ago. Since, there have been 5,344 rescues with over 21.9 million supervised.
